1.Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data FirstGrade Edu Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (“FirstGrade”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use firstgrade.in and our apps, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
We are a company incorporated in India, based in Bangalore, Karnataka. Registered office: TO BE CONFIRMED — Registered office address. CIN: TO BE CONFIRMED — CIN (Corporate Identity Number).
This policy is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, email firstgrade@firstgrade.in and we will explain it.
2.What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address and password (stored only as a cryptographic hash, never in readable form). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google instead of a password.
- Profile details — the optional things you choose to add, such as your target exam, class or year, phone number, city, school or college.
- Content you create — test attempts and answers, resumes and the documents you upload to the resume tools, essays submitted for evaluation, code you write in the coding practice tools, and messages you send to our AI assistant.
- Payment details — when you buy a plan, you enter your card, UPI or bank details directly with our payment gateway, Razorpay. Those details go to Razorpay, not to us. We receive only the outcome: whether the payment succeeded, the amount, and a reference ID.
- Anything you send support — the contents of emails and complaints you send us.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — which pages and features you use, test scores and progress, streaks, and the timing of your activity. This is what powers your dashboard, analytics and leaderboards.
- Device and technical data — IP address, browser and device type, operating system, and error diagnostics when something crashes.
- Cookies and local storage — see section 6.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for and do not want your Aadhaar number, PAN, government ID scans, bank account numbers, card numbers, biometric identifiers, caste, religion, health records or any other sensitive category of personal data. Please do not send these to us. If you upload a resume containing details you would rather we did not hold, remove them from the file first — you can also delete an uploaded resume at any time.
3.How we use your data
We use your data only for these purposes:
- To run the service — create and secure your account, serve tests, save your progress, generate reports and score analytics.
- To personalise your preparation — study plans, chapter recommendations, weak-area analysis and predicted scores are all derived from your own attempt history.
- To process payments — activate, renew or cancel plans and issue refunds.
- To communicate with you — account and transactional emails (verification, password reset, receipts, plan changes) and, if you have opted in, digests and product updates. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time; account and payment emails are not optional while you hold an account.
- To keep the platform safe and fair — detect abuse, cheating, automated scraping and fraudulent payments, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To improve the product — understand which features help students, and fix crashes.
- To meet legal obligations — tax, accounting and lawful requests from authorities.
4.AI features and what they send
Several FirstGrade features are powered by third-party AI models. When you use one of them, the text you submit for that feature is sent to the model provider to generate a response:
- AI doubt solver and chat — your question and the conversation context.
- Resume tools and ATS scanner — the resume text you provide, which normally includes your name, contact details and education or work history.
- Essay and descriptive-answer evaluation — the answer you submit.
- Mock interviews and group discussions — your spoken audio and its transcript.
- Career guidance and study plans — the profile details and goals you enter.
Our AI providers are listed in section 7. We use their standard business APIs and do not authorise them to train their public models on your submissions.
5.Camera, microphone and proctoring
Some features ask for access to your camera or microphone. Your browser will always ask for permission first, and you can refuse or revoke it at any time — you simply will not be able to use that specific feature.
Proctored tests — camera analysis stays on your device
When a proctored test is running, we analyse the camera feed inside your browser to check that a face is present and looking at the screen. The video never leaves your device. No frames, photographs or recordings are uploaded to us or to anyone else, and no facial recognition or identification is performed. Only the outcome — for example “a warning was triggered” or “the test was auto-ended” — is recorded against your attempt.
Group discussions and mock interviews — audio does leave your device
These features are different, because your speech has to be transcribed and evaluated. Your audio and its transcript are sent to our speech and AI providers (see section 7) to produce the transcript, the AI participants’ responses and your evaluation. In a group discussion with other human participants, the other participants hear you live, and your transcript and scores form part of that session’s evaluation record.
8.How long we keep it
We keep your account and activity data for as long as your account is open, because that history is the product — your progress, past attempts and analytics depend on it.
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within TO BE CONFIRMED — Data retention period after account deletion.
Certain records are kept longer where the law requires it — in particular payment and invoice records retained for tax and accounting purposes, and records needed to resolve disputes or prevent fraud.
9.Your rights and choices
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete — most profile fields you can edit yourself in your account settings.
- Delete your account and personal data.
- Withdraw consent you previously gave, including for marketing email and for camera or microphone access.
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.
- Complain to us, and then to the Data Protection Board of India if we do not resolve it.
To exercise any of these, email firstgrade@firstgrade.in from the address on your account. We may need to verify your identity before we act, so that nobody else can request your data or delete your account.
10.Students under 18
A large share of our users are school students, so this section matters. FirstGrade offers preparation material for Class 6 to Class 12 alongside college and career tools.
Our minimum age and guardian-consent rule is: TO BE CONFIRMED — Minimum age / guardian consent rule.
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, a child’s data may be processed only with verifiable consent from a parent or guardian, and we must not track children, serve them targeted advertising, or process their data in a way likely to harm them. We do not serve advertising on FirstGrade at all.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has given us personal data without your consent, email firstgrade@firstgrade.in and we will remove it.
11.How we protect your data
Traffic between your device and FirstGrade is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes and are never readable by us or recoverable — which is why a forgotten password can only be reset, never retrieved. Access to production data is restricted to the people who need it to operate the service, and payment card details never touch our servers.
No online service can promise perfect security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as required by law.
Please help us: use a unique password, do not share your account, and tell us immediately at firstgrade@firstgrade.in if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.
12.Grievance Officer
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the contact details of our Grievance Officer are:
- Name: TO BE CONFIRMED — Grievance Officer name
- Email: noreply.firstgrade@gmail.com
- Phone: +91 96202 73116
- Address: TO BE CONFIRMED — Registered office address
Our commitment on grievances: TO BE CONFIRMED — Grievance acknowledgement / resolution time.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.
13.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product and the law change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you by email or an in-product notice before it takes effect.
Continuing to use FirstGrade after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
