How to use this roadmap
The dates follow the Tamil Nadu school calendar (June reopening, Quarterly around September, Half-Yearly around December, Annual exam around April). Keep the term goals fixed and shift chapters to match your school’s teaching order.
The Class 8 year at a glance
Anchored to the TN school calendar and the Samacheer Kalvi Term I/II/III structure. Confirm 2026-27 school-exam dates with your school.
The weekly rhythm
- School + homework first
- 45 min: Maths or Science daily (textbook exercises, not just reading)
- 30 min: a second subject (own notes as you go)
- 10–15 min: reading — a page of Tamil and a page of English
- 90 min: the week’s hardest topics + one timed written section
- 30 min: Tamil / English answer-writing
- Rest of the day free — Class 8 should not feel heavy
- 45–60 min: revise the week; update the weak-topic list
- A little map work or a Science diagram to keep it fresh
- Rest and play — habits matter more than long hours
Total: about 1.5–2 focused hours on school days. The goal in Class 8 is consistency, not intensity.
Class 8 milestones
September
Quarterly examination
First state-calendar checkpoint. A small syllabus — ideal for testing your revision method early.
December
Half-Yearly examination
The biggest test of the year so far. Treat it as a timed rehearsal.
March
Revision & consolidation
Two revision passes; tidy notes, maps and diagrams before the Annual.
April
Annual examination
The main school exam that closes the middle-school stage.

Olympiads & talent tests
Maths and Science Olympiads are a good stretch for keen students — a bonus, never a burden.
