The three HSC streams

Every stream still takes Part I (a Language) and Part II (English); Part III is the four stream subjects. Exact combinations differ by school — confirm what your school offers before choosing.
Choosing a stream is the real decision of +1
The stream picked in Class 11 shapes Class 12 and the doors open after school. Choose on genuine interest and strengths, not on peer pressure — a student who enjoys their four Part III subjects will out-work one placed in the “prestige” group they dislike. Talk it through calmly before June, using the SSLC result as a guide, not a verdict.
The HSC +1 essentials
Pick the stream deliberately: Science, Commerce or Arts — match interest and strengths, and confirm the exact Part III combination your school offers
Textbook first, always: the +1 public exam is set on the Samacheer Kalvi book — master it before any guide or coaching material
Treat +1 as a two-year base: Class 11 concepts carry straight into Class 12 and entrance exams; gaps now cost double later
Own the objective section: daily short-question practice across the whole book is the cheapest, most predictable marks
Answer-writing from Term 1: a 3-hour theory paper rewards structured long answers; build the skill from June, not January
