The three HSC streams

Exact subject combinations vary by school. Part I (Language) and Part II (English) are common to all streams. All textbooks are free in Tamil and English medium at textbooksonline.tn.nic.in.
The board year that opens doors
HSC is the exam colleges look at. It rewards coverage and clarity from the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks more than tricks — every chapter matters, and the students who finish early and revise with timed papers are very hard to stop. Science students aiming at engineering or medicine carry an extra load (TNEA cutoff, NEET) — the roadmap accounts for it.
The HSC essentials
Textbook first, always: the public exam is set on the Samacheer Kalvi book — master it before any guide
Finish early, revise long: complete the syllabus by January so February–March is revision and past papers
Timed public-exam papers: solve past HSC papers and the current-year model paper under the full 3-hour clock
Entrance overlap: if you target engineering (TNEA) or medicine (NEET), plan that prep alongside — not instead of — board study
Answer presentation: HSC long answers reward structure; practise clean, complete answers from Term 1
