YEAR PLAN · 2026-27

Class 6 Study Roadmap 2026-27 — a Gentle Full-Year Plan

The first middle-school year, planned term by term: settle in, build habits, and cover the new NCERT books without pressure. Made for students — and for the parents guiding them.

How to use this roadmap

Class 6 is a transition year — the plan is intentionally light. Keep the term goals, match the months to your school’s sequence, and protect the free time: play is part of the plan.

Year at a glance

Term 1 · April – September— Settle into middle school and build the daily rhythm

Apr – May

Transition first, syllabus second

  • Maths: first 2–3 Ganita Prakash chapters as puzzles, together
  • Science: first Curiosity chapters — do the activities
  • Start the 15-minute daily reading habit
  • Set a simple homework-first evening routine

Jun – Jul

First tests, zero drama

  • Maths: chapters 3–5; redo earlier exercises before PT-1
  • Science: continue with the activity notebook
  • Social Science: first Exploring Society themes
  • PT-1 (July): practise “revise from your own notes” for the first time

Aug – Sep

Half-yearly checkpoint

  • Maths: reach chapter 6 of 10
  • Science: reach chapter 6–7 of 12
  • English: two Poorvi units done + weekly 5-sentence writing
  • Half-yearly exams (Sep): calm, notes-based revision
Term 2 · October – March— Finish the books comfortably and revise without cramming

Oct – Nov

Steady progress + optional Olympiads

  • Maths: chapters 7–8
  • Science: chapters 8–9
  • SOF NSO/IMO rounds (Nov–Dec) if the school participates and the child enjoys them
  • Keep the daily quiz streak alive

Dec – Jan

Close out the new material

  • Maths: finish all 10 chapters by end of January
  • Science: finish all 12 chapters
  • Languages: finish Poorvi units and Malhar chapters
  • PT-2 (Dec): another low-stakes rehearsal

Feb – Mar

One relaxed revision pass, then annuals

  • Revise every subject once from own notes
  • Extra pass only on genuinely shaky chapters
  • Annual exams (Feb–Mar): sleep, food, calm — in that order
  • Celebrate the year — the first middle-school year is done

Pacing is based on Ganita Prakash (10 chapters) and Curiosity (12). Adjust freely to your school’s order.

The weekly rhythm

Mon – Fri
  • Homework first, same time every day
  • 30–40 min: one subject properly (alternate Maths / Science / SST)
  • 15 min: reading — any book they enjoy
  • 5–10 min: FirstGrade daily quiz
Saturday
  • 45 min: the week’s trickiest topic, redone together if needed
  • One short piece of writing (English or Hindi, alternating)
  • Free afternoon — genuinely free
Sunday
  • 30 min: look back over the week’s notes
  • Get the school bag and week plan ready in 10 minutes
  • Rest and play — non-negotiable at this age

Total: under an hour on school days. If it regularly takes much longer, the problem is the method, not the child.

Milestones through the year

July

Periodic Test 1

First middle-school test — the goal is a calm process, not a score.

September

Half-yearly exams

First multi-subject exam week. Practise planning revision days together.

November – December

Olympiad season (optional)

SOF NSO and IMO school rounds typically fall here. Fun stretch, zero pressure.

December

Periodic Test 2

By now the revise-from-notes routine should feel normal.

February – March

Annual examinations

One relaxed full revision pass is enough if the year’s rhythm held.

Subject-wise sequence

SubjectTerm 1 targetTerm 2 targetPriority note
Mathematics (Ganita Prakash, 10 ch)Chapters 1–6Chapters 7–10 by end JanKeep it playful — the book is designed that way
Science (Curiosity, 12 ch)Chapters 1–7 with activitiesChapters 8–12The activity notebook IS the revision material
Social Science (Exploring Society)First half of themesRemaining themesMap work little and often
English (Poorvi, 5 units)Units 1–3Units 4–5Daily reading matters more than the textbook
Hindi (Malhar)First halfSecond halfReading aloud fixes fluency fastest

For parents — what to check, monthly

The routineIs the homework-first evening slot actually happening? That single habit carries the year
Reading15 minutes daily, their choice of book — the highest-leverage academic habit at this age
One conversationAsk what was most interesting (not hardest) this month — Class 6 should stay fun
NotebooksA few lines of own-words notes per chapter is the skill to praise, not marks
Load checkIf evenings regularly exceed an hour of homework+study, talk to the school before adding tuition

Build the daily habit early

Five minutes a day in Class 6 becomes automatic by Class 8 — start the streak free.
