JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Qualifying subjects, minimum marks for admission, number of attempts and age rules — everything that decides whether you can appear and take admission.

Core eligibility

Qualifying exam: Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / a technical vocational subject.
Age limit: No upper age limit to appear for JEE Main.
Number of attempts: Three consecutive years after Class 12; with two sessions per year, up to six attempts.
Year of passing: Candidates who passed Class 12 in the current or previous year, or are appearing, are eligible.
Nationality: Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals may apply.

Minimum marks for admission (via JoSAA)

There is no minimum percentage to appear for JEE Main; these apply for admission through JoSAA to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.

You can appear for JEE Main with no minimum percentage. The 75% / top-20-percentile rule applies to be eligible for admission to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs through JoSAA.
